Our “baby” will be 2 in less than 2 weeks. Every part of our days together makes me very introspective lately. I feel like I just had my babies and at the same time, it’s hard to believe I ever knew life without them in it.
I decided to document Fiona’s nursery as it is today, before it continues to change as she grows older. So many things about it still remind me of my pregnancy and the days leading up to her birth. It’s one of my favorite spaces in our home, a collection of mostly secondhand finds just like the rest of our home! I hope you enjoy this little virtual tour🥰
(When you click links, it is really appreciated! It doesn’t matter whether you shop or just click- I really appreciate it always! Thank you for being here! 🫶 and I’d love for you to comment so I know who is reading!)
These curtains hung in the apartment Ryan and I lived in from 2016-2018 when we bought our first (and current!) house. The chair is one of my favorite secondhand purchases ever. I bought it for $40 cash in 2013, from a regular at the bar Ryan worked at. It had the coolest antique upholstery but after years of letting our 3 big dogs lounge on it, my MIL reupholstered the chair for me just before Fiona arrived! Here are 2 old pics of the chair in our old apartment 🥰🥰🥰 wasn’t the fabric great?
I love the new fabric, too. Here it is with a little afghan I thrifted years before I had kids & kept for a future baby (ha!) the Madeline doll is mine from childhood and the butterfly blanket was baby shower gift we still use daily!! I highly recommend it.
I watched this Mary Engelbreit print at the thrift store for weeks until it went on sale and I finally swiped it. Soph’s loved this fairy tale collection since she was like 18 months old and Fiona loves it now too so it’s extra fun. Plus who doesn’t love Mary??? Now I’m seeing there’s a board book version and I’m thinking of several people I want to gift it to. I’m not a raving fan of mother goose style rhymes but my kids are so drawn to it, that it’s made me a fan.
For fun, a close-up of her toy basket and the Mary print 🪿🪿🪿
I think this wooden shelf lived in my sister’s dorm room at one point. Not sure how I came to have it, but it houses this little collection of toys and books and a basket full of diapers. Side note: we recently upgraded all 4 of us to these toothbrushes like the one in the pic and the clean is so so great.
The little wooden fruit puzzle above is a hand me down from a friend and even as it falls apart from age and love, it remains the family favorite. I love wood puzzles with tiny knobs on each piece ☺️
Below, the ikea sniglar crib was a marketplace find that I searched months for! I love the look and I read that they use nontoxic wood and no unsafe varnish/finish, etc, have especially clean/nontoxic manufacturing or something like that, so… win-win. I will probably take the front off soon. Fiona is sleeping with me mostly, and she will love climbing into her bed to relax throughout the day with her growing collection of stuffies.
Now for a quick spotlight on this quilt that my MIL handmade for the girls 😍
And a few of Fiona’s fav stuffies. “Monk” the monkey isn’t pictured.
I researched and purchased the organic cotton lion for her to sleep with nightly, only for her to grow inseparable from the polyester monkey - ha!
I love this little framed painting I thrifted when Soph was younger.
I also really love this dresser! It was a gift from my MIL. It used to have really cool antique hardware, that I’ll include a pic of below. When it started wearing into pieces from age, I found these awesome fruit pieces for like $1.99 total at a goodwill and they make me so happy!!!
Check out the old antique pulls, when it used to live in Soph’s nursery ☺️ you can actually see the bottom drawer has 1 broken pull already
This butterfly print is another thrifted piece from before I had the girls. The girls will probably have to sell it in my estate sale one day because I love it so much. I love rotating stacks of books around on shelves and dressers. We always have a few more books than we can store- oops. The rainbow is grimm’s but here is a similar one ! (The water-based paint is Kay, so it isn’t too glossy to stack!) It gets a lot of play and I like to decorate with it too because it’s fun! 🌈 the tiny zebra lamp was $1 at my fav thrift shop and it ‘s giving Y2K/ Limited Too meets Bombay Company
This Breyer horse is a hand me down from family that both girls LOVE. Fiona saddled him up with this Barbie brand saddle that’s entirely the wrong size, which made me smile a lot.
These pipe cleaners live in a drawer in this closet that the girls can access for making beaded jewelry, etc, and are basically a fixed feature of the room at this point, always hanging out of the curtains. I know it isn’t really always though… sob… and I’m enjoying it while it lasts.
Oh my gosh also, the amazing rug was a STEAL at just $80 at a thrift shop where it was accidentally unmarked, and the manager was openly ticked off at her poor employee who priced it for me… it is 100% wool, and sooo soft. I’m determined to upgrade all of my artificial rugs with pure wool asap. I love it so much. I realize it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I like the eclectic look of it in a little kid’s room that’s got bubble gum pink walls.
Finally, one more Breyer horse, our blocks from Facebook marketplace, and our favorite ball run.
This was fun. Maybe I’ll go into my old photos & share Soph’s old nursery… or her current room.
Thanks for coming with me on this nursery tour… long live houses that are fun and personal and not all beige, and love live secondhand shopping 🤘
This room is a dream!! So cozy and colorful feels like stepping into nostalgic childhood 💖🤗 what a beautiful space you’ve created for Fiona.
This room is sooo fun!!! My favorite pieces in my house are secondhand/thrifted. I love buying from FB marketplace and getting to hear the story of something!
